Professor David Maguire - Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of East Anglia

David is Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of East Anglia (UEA). Before his appointment at the UEA, he was Interim Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sussex and Interim Principal at the University of Dundee. He was Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich from 2011 to 2019. He has also worked as an academic at the universities of Lancaster, Leicester, Plymouth, and Redlands (California).

David was educated at the University of Bristol and the University of Exeter. He has worked extensively in the field of computer mapping and geographic information systems. He is the author of many influential papers and books. This includes co-authoring the leading student text 'Geographic Information Science and Systems'.

Before returning to academia as a university leader, he spent 20 years working in the IT industry. During this time, he was Chief Scientist and Director of Products for Esri - a global computer software and services company based in California.
